San Francisco Giants’ Unexpected Move On All-Star Triggers Online Buzz

The San Francisco Giants have decided to send relief pitcher Camilo Doval down to the minor leagues on Friday. The surprising move was reported by Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com .

Doval’s demotion took place after a poor performance on the mound during Thursday’s 9-5 win in the series finale on the road against the Washington Nationals.

The 27-year-old Doval got a chance to put away the Nationals in the ninth frame with the Giants holding a three-run lead. However, Doval struggled with his location, allowing two walks before surrendering a home run to Luis Garcia Jr. to tie the game and eventually send the contest to extra innings.

It was the fifth blown save for Doval in the 2024 MLB season, who’s been having a hard time sustaining the form he had during his 2023 All-Star campaign. Through 46 appearances on the mound this season, Doval has posted a 4.70 ERA, 3.93 FIP, and 1.614 WHIP .

In addition, Doval’s walk rate went from 9.3 percent in 2023 to 14.3 percent this year.
