Do Eagles Need Additional Receivers for 2024 Season?

In their 16-13 victory to open preseason action against the Baltimore Ravens, the Philadelphia Eagles struggled to move the ball through the air.

The issue isn't uncommon in the preseason. Over the first five games, no team has scored over 20 points across the league.

There is, however, an underlying issue with the Eagles following Friday's contest when it comes to their roster construction - especially when it comes to final decisions on the 53-man roster.

The team still doesn't know who their third wide receiver will be.

In Friday's win, John Ross led the team with three catches and 28 yards receiving. No Eagles receiver caught more than four passes or recorded over 30 yards receiving.

While A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith remain two stars that the Eagles will focus on getting the ball to at this point, there is still a need for the organization to find a third receiver to trust at this point.

The good news is that the context from Friday's game provides a benefit of the doubt.

Both Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee, the two quarterbacks to get action in Friday's win, looked mediocre at best. Throws were completely off the mark, and reads were missed consistently.

For example, a player like Johnny Wilson may have only had one catch, but the tape shows he got open consistently throughout the contest - the quarterback didn't throw him the ball.

Philadelphia could potentially look to add another receiver at this point in training camp, but it's pretty clear they do have some solid players who could help the offense in 2924.

If the quarterback just gets them the ball.
