Britain Covey Impresses in Eagles Preseason Win

The Philadelphia Eagles already know what they have in Britain Covey as a punt return specialist.

It's his work as a receiver, though, that is what continues to impress the coaching staff to this point.

Covey caught four passes in Friday's 16-13 preseason victory while getting open for even more routes throughout the contest. He looks the part of a dynamic slot receiver who may be undersized but can get open at the NFL level.

The NFL has certainly seen those types of players succeed. Whether it was Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, or Danny Amendola, small slot receivers can be detrimental to any top defense.

In the case of the Eagles, the more Covey stands out, the more likely it is he'll have a role on the team for the entire 2024 season.

And that's even before the team considers what he brings as a punt returner.

Covey led the NFL last season in punt return yardage and was one of the more consistent returners in the game. The longer he plays, it seems, the better he gets.

His exploits as a returner kept him on the Eagles roster to this point, but the improvements he's made as a receiver could guarantee him a spot for years to come.
