Twins to induct Terry Ryan, Rick Stelmaszek into club HOF on Saturday

A week after honoring new Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Mauer, the Minnesota Twins will honor two more longtime Twins.

Former general manager Terry Ryan and longtime coach Rick Stelmaszek will be inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame ahead of Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guaridans.

Ryan, known as the architect of Minnesota’s division-winning teams of the 2000s, was the club’s general manager from 1994-2007 and 2011-16.. That 18-year tenure is the second-longest in team history.

He originally joined the Twins as a 35th-round draft pick in 1972 and pitched in the minors for four years. He then became a scout for the New York Mets before the Twins hired him as scouting director in 1986.

Stelmaszek, who died in 2017 and will be represented by his wife, Kathie, was a Twins coach for 32 seasons (1981-2012). That remains the longest tenure in Twins history and the third-longest tenure with a single club in baseball history.

He was originally drafted by the Washington Senators in 1967 and, after bouncing around the league, rejoined the franchise in Minnesota in 1978.

He, of course, was part of both Twins World Series teams.

Ryan and Stelmaszek will become the 39th and 40th members of the Twins Hall of Fame.
