The Boston Red Sox (61-53) have been ranked atop the MLB mountain in team offense for the majority of the season. You do not find yourself ranked that highly without receiving production from the majority of your offense. One contributor to that offensive output has been rookie right fielder Wilyer Abreu .

In a recent article from Bleacher Report , Joel Reuter ranked the top 10 players at each position. When it comes to right field, Abreu ranks as the 6th best in the game right now.

The Red Sox acquired Abreu ahead of the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline in a trade with the Houston Astros (60-55). The Red Sox received Abreu and Enmanuel Valdez and sent Christian Vazquez to the Astros.

For the season, Abreu has batted .269/.337/.506 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, and a 128 OPS+. He did participate in parts of 28 games for the Red Sox last season, totaling 85 plate appearances. He batted .316/.388/.474 with two home runs, 14 RBI, and a 132 OPS+.

Per Baseball Savant, Abreu ranks in the top 18 percent in Outs Above Average this season with three. Being able to provide solid production at the plate, as well as above-average defense in the outfield is a major plus, and it has made the Red Sox all the better.

Abreu, 25, was not among the Red Sox players named to the All-Star Game this season. However, if he can continue producing at the rate that he has, he may be bringing home some hardware at season's end, and the All-Star nods will be sure to follow.
