Jordan Chiles Announces Decision Amid Bronze Medal Drama

Jordan Chiles could be stripped of the individual bronze medal she won in the Floor Exercise finals, according to multiple reports on Saturday.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the appeal from United States coach Cecile Landi came outside of the 1-minute window allowed by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

The 0.1 score bump from this appeal saw Chiles jump Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea.

Chiles hinted at the decision on her Instagram story, posting several broken heart emojis. She then announced her decision to remove herself from social media.

"I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health thank you," she wrote.

“The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring,” USA Gymnastics wrote in a statement on Saturday.

"Throughout the appeal process, Jordan has been subject to consistent, utterly baseless and extremely hurtful attacks on social media. No athlete should be subject to such treatment. We condemn the attacks and those who engage, support or instigate them. We commend Jordan for conducting herself with integrity both on and off the competition floor, and we continue to stand by and support her."
