Social Media Roasts Joel Embiid in Team USA's Gold Medal Olympics Basketball Match

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is one of the best players in the NBA. His Olympics performance, however, has drawn mixed reviews.

Embiid has eclipsed 30 points per game in each of his last three NBA seasons. Even so, the talented player struggled to stay in front of his opponent on one defensive possession in Saturday's Olympics gold medal game.

France star Victor Wembanyama 's scoring ability compelled Embiid to defend him on the perimeter. With Embiid away from the basket, Wembanyama cruised past the Team USA player for a highlight dunk.

In fairness to Embiid, Wembanyama is a matchup problem for most of the best basketball players in the world. Nevertheless, the play evoked strong reaction on social media over Embiid's ability to defend top opposition.

The play didn't prevent Team USA from keeping Joel Embiid in the lineup. Obviously, Embiid adds plenty of value to his team on offense. Albeit, his presence in the lineup gave France an advantage with Wembanyama on the other end of the court.

Embiid has taken plenty of criticism over Team USA's Olympics run, but it hasn't deterred his focus. The US looks to win its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Saturday's finale against France.
