Victor Wembanyama Sends Frightening Warning to NBA After France's Gold Medal Loss

Victor Wembanyama was arguably the best player on the floor in a game that featured LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, among other NBA superstars.

Making that feat even more impressive for the 20-year-old? He pulled it off under the brightest lights of his young career in Paris, leading France to a gold-medal matchup with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics.

The host nation fell short in its bid for a historic first-ever gold on Saturday, losing to the Americans 98-87. Don't blame Wembanyama for France's defeat, though. He finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting, adding seven rebounds, two assists and one block.

After receiving his silver medal, the San Antonio Spurs' franchise player issued an ominous warning to all those he'll face off with on the court going forward.

"I'm learning, and I'm worried for the opponents in a couple years," Wembanyama said, per Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express News.

Asked to clarify whether he's reserving concern for FIBA or NBA foes, Wembanyama didn't discriminate.

    "Everywhere," he said.

Wembanyama enjoyed a fair share of ups and downs at the Olympics, coming alive in the knockout round once coach Vincent Collet separated his minutes from Rudy Gobert's and made other changes to the French rotation.

There's a blueprint in place for France to win big on the international stage in the future. Wembanyama, obviously, factors heavily into that optimism.

Just one win shy of a gold medal in Paris, though, he's already dreaming of similarly shiny trophies in the NBA, too.
