Stephen Curry's Electric Three-Point Shot to Win Gold Medal Receives Perfect Nickname

Stephen Curry was completely unstoppable in the closing minutes of the Olympic Final between the USA and France. His shot over two defenders has the sports world buzzing as it will go down in the history books.
With less than a minute left in the contest, Curry had the ball at the top of the key. He drew both Evan Fournier and Nicolas Batum, as the two attempted to slow down Curry. But the shot somehow went in, giving Team USA a 96-87 lead with just over 30 seconds in the game.
Immediately after hitting the shot, Noah Eagle, the son of famous sports announcer, Ian Eagle, named the three-pointer , "The Golden Dagger," live on air. It's the most perfect nickname, as Curry's clutch three-pointer all but secured the gold medal for Team USA.
"The Golden Dagger" has a nice ring to it. Especially considering that's essentially what Curry was in the final three minutes of play. He finished the contest with 24 points shooting 8-13 from beyond arc. However, 19 of those points were recorded in the closing minutes of play.
Throughout the Olympics, Curry led Team USA in points (14.8 per game), edging LeBron James (14.2 per game) in that category. The superstar guard also averaged 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 and assists. He shot 50 percent from the field while going 47.8 percent from beyond the arc. Curry finished the Olympics hitting 22 three-pointers out of 46 attempts.
United States shooting guard Stephen Curry (4) shoots against France small forward Nicolas Batum (5) and shooting guard Evan Fournier (10) in the second half against France in the men's basketball gold medal game during the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games at Accor Arena.
This is Curry's first ever gold medal, as this was the first time he played in the Summer Olympics. His efforts helped the U.S. Men's Team secure its fifth consecutive gold medal. Teaming up with James and Kevin Durant was a spectacle to behold, as they each led the way for Team USA throughout the Olympic tournament.
James ended the Paris Olympics averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds (team leader), and 8.5 assists (team leader). At 39 years old, James was able reel in his third gold medal representing the USA.
As for Durant, the superstar forward brings home his fourth career gold medal. His role on this year's USA team allowed him to play fluidly and focus on scoring. Durant ended the Paris Olympics averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
Based on on their ages, it's widely expected that this year was the last time we'll see Curry (36), James (39), and Durant (35) participate in the Olympics. To put it simply, the three of them will go out with a bang!
