U.S. Gymnastics Coach's Heartbreaking Reaction To Jordan Chiles Bronze Medal Controversy

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles was on the receiving end of some terrible news on Saturday after the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to void her camp's previously successful inquiry during the individual floor final on August 5.

The inquiry was initiated by Chiles' coach, Cecile Landi, which upon deliberation, led to the judges adding 0.1 to Chiles' final score to lift her above Romanian Ana Barbosu for the bronze medal.

On Saturday, however, the FIG issued a statement declaring that the inquiry was "raised after the conclusion of the one-minute deadline provided by article 8.5 of the 2024 FIG Technical Regulations and is determined to be without effect."

Landi, who herself is a former Olympic gymnast for France, took to Instagram shortly after the decision was made public. Her one-emoji reaction says it all.

Landi used one heartbroken emoji over a black background to express how devastated she is by these unforeseen turn of events. She also added a hashtag at the bottom that read "mental health matters."

Landi's reaction is very similar to that of Chiles, who, for her part, had four heartbroken emojis over a black background in her Instagram post. The 23-year-old also announced that she will be "removing herself from social media for my mental health."
