Olympic Legend Nadia Comaneci Slams 'Attacks' On Jordan Chiles, Romanian Gymnasts

Gymnastics icon Nadia Comaneci has been very vocal about the whole Jordan Chiles bronze medal controversy. Comaneci, who won five gold medals for Romania during her stint as an Olympian, has been one of the main proponents fighting for the rights of Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea, who were the two Romanian gymnasts who lost an opportunity to win a bronze medal in the gymnastics floor final on August 5.

On Saturday, the International Gymnastics Federation announced in a statement that Chiles' initially successful appeal has been deemed invalid, thereby potentially stripping the American of her bronze medal.

Based on her social media activity, Comanenci is clearly delighted by this turn of events. In one of her posts on X, formerly Twitter, however, the 62-year-old could not help but call out the fans for how some of them have "attacked" the athletes amid this controversy.

"To all the fans around the world please STOP attacking these young ladies .. it is unacceptable and cruel🙏🙏 #barbosu #chiles #voinea" she wrote.

There is no doubt that Comaneci has and continues to side with her compatriots, but she's also pleading to the fans that Chiles also be spared of their "cruel" criticism.

At the end of the day, all these three athletes did was leave everything on the floor during the competition. They did what they were supposed to, and it's now up to the governing bodies to come up with a resolution.

The ladies are not at fault here, so attacking them on social media is completely uncalled for.
