USA Gymnastics Teammates Rally Around Jordan Chiles During Bronze-Medal Fiasco

Jordan Chiles went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in the span of five days after she was reportedly stripped of the bronze medal she earned in the women’s floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Chiles took to Instagram to announce she was taking a social-media break for her mental health after the Court of Arbitration for Sports announced on Saturday it had voided the inquiry that led to Chiles’ score being adjusted, which moved her from fifth place to third and onto the medal podium, likely stripping her of her medal.

Regardless of what the ultimate outcome is, three of Chiles' teammates took to social media to voice their support for their downtrodden comrade.

“All this talk about the athlete, what about the judges?” Suni Lee wrote on her Instagram story. “Completely unacceptable. This is awful and I’m gutted for Jordan. I got your back forever Jo. U have all my flowers and you will ALWAYS be an Olympic champion.”

“Sending you so much love Jordan,” Simone Biles wrote on her Instagram story. “Keep your chin up Olympic champ! We love you.”

“Don’t punish the athlete for someone else’s mistake,” Jade Carey wrote on her Instagram story. “With you all the way Jo. You are forever an Olympic champion that has so much to be proud of.”

There is still a chance though that Chiles get to keep her medal — the first individual one of her career. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation has recommended that Chiles, Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea all be awarded bronze medals given the circumstances.

Although Chiles’ score inquiry was overturned, the fact is the judges admitted her routine wasn’t scored correctly. Additionally, Maneca-Voinea was penalized .01 points for touching out of bounds during her routine, and her coaches maintain such a penalty never occurred and her score should reflect it.
