DTR Guides Browns to First TD in Preseason Opener Amid Roster Battle

In the Cleveland Browns' 2024 preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers , second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson played a pivotal role in guiding the team to their first touchdown of the season .

Late in the fourth quarter, Thompson-Robinson orchestrated a drive that saw the Browns reach the red zone for the second time, ultimately setting up rookie running back Aidan Robbins for a one-yard touchdown run.

Thompson-Robinson’s leadership on the field was evident as he completed a critical 4th-and-1 by hurdling a Packers defender to keep the drive alive. He followed that up with a precise pass to wide receiver James Proche, bringing the Browns within striking distance.

Although a potential touchdown pass to wide receiver Ahmarean Brown was called back due to an illegal man downfield penalty on rookie lineman Zak Zinter, Thompson-Robinson maintained composure, quickly moving the ball to the Packers' 1-yard line.

This strong showing comes at a crucial time for Thompson-Robinson, who is vying for a roster spot amid a crowded quarterback room.

The former UCLA standout was recently named a potential cut candidate, facing stiff competition from veterans Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley, who were added in the offseason. With Deshaun Watson firmly entrenched as the starter, Thompson-Robinson's preseason performance is under intense scrutiny as he works to prove his value to the team.

As the preseason continues, Thompson-Robinson’s ability to lead drives and contribute to scoring plays will be key factors in determining his future with the Browns.

Thompson-Robinson ended the night 14/18 for 134 yards in the air and 2 yards rushing. The young quarterback finished with 136 of the Browns' total 244 yards.  However, it wasn't enough to see the Browns prevail as they fell 23-10 to the Packers.
