LeBron James Officially Gives 2024 Team USA New Nickname After Gold Medal

In 1992, we had the "Dream Team."

In 2008, we had the "Redeem Team."

So after Team USA beat France on Saturday and won the fifth straight Olympic gold medal in men's basketball, what are we going to be calling this squad?

Olympic MVP LeBron James has an answer.

"The Avengers."

Not long after Team USA's 98-87 victory over Team France, LeBron was asked about what this team would be remembered as. While it may not have been as dreamy as in '92, and there wasn't the need for redemption like in '08, James did know that with the level of star power they had on the roster, conjuring up a superhero-themed nickname was appropriate.

There is a long list of superheroes who are part of The Avengers, but the most commonly known are Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, and the Hulk.

So who is who?

That's a conversation for a different day, but at least we can now commonly refer to this immensely talented 2024 Team USA squad with a proper title.
