Jordan Chiles will lose the bronze medal she had earned in the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics after a controversial ruling, prompting Team USA to send a heartbreaking message of support to the gymnast.

After an independent judge determined that U.S. coaches filed an appeal of Chiles' original score four seconds too late and vacated a score change that awarded her the bronze, the International Olympic Committee announced it will strip Chiles of the medal.

"We are in touch with the NOC [National Olympic Committee] of Romania to discuss the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC [U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee] regarding the return of the bronze medal," the IOC said in a statement.

After the ruling, Team USA took to social media to offer a strong show of support for Chiles.

"Forever THAT GIRL," the Team USA account posted on X above an image of Chiles competing at the Paris Olympics.

Chiles had been initially awarded a score of 13.666 in her floor routine, but it was bumped by 0.1 points after American coaches asked for a review. That moved Chiles from fifth place and into third, knocking Romania's Ana Barbosu off the medal stand.

The change will now revert Chiles back to her original score, officially placing her in fifth place. Chiles will still leave the Paris Olympics with the gold medal Team USA earned in the team competition.
