    So close, yet so far.

This is the feeling French women's basketball team is having after losing to Team USA in the gold medal game of the Paris Olympics.

What makes it even more painful is that the game could have been tied up to force an overtime, if only the three-point line was a few feet shorter.

With the U.S. leading 67-64 after converting free throws with four seconds left on the game clock, France rushed to the other side of the court with the hope of finding a quality shot from beyond the arc. The ball ended up in Gabby Williams' hands, putting all the responsibility on her to tie the game for her country.

She managed to find a shot she can take and wound up banking it in off the glass at the buzzer. However, her foot was on the three-point line, meaning the basket only counts as two points, having the final score be 67-66 in favor of the U.S. Williams led France in scoring with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals on 7-of-16 shooting from the field.

Fans immediately likened it to an iconic NBA moment when Kevin Durant made a thrilling shot in Game 7 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the eventual champs Milwaukee Bucks. That shot could have been a game-winner in favor of Durant and the Brooklyn Nets, but it ended up being a two-pointer with his foot on the three-point line as well. They ended up losing that game 115-111 in overtime.

Here are some of the fans' reactions to her shot against the U.S.:
