The Minnesota Twins announced Sunday that they’ve officially retired the Washington Senators “W,” honoring the franchise’s origins and those who played for it.

The team had an on-field ceremony ahead of Sunday’s game to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Senators’ 1924 World Series win, the first championship in franchise history.

Minnesota also announced that the “W” will be displayed alongside the retired numbers on left field facade at Target Field.

It is the 10th entity retired by the Twins.

“The Washington Senators ‘W’ is a reminder of our legacy as a charter member of the American League,” Minnesota Twins Executive Chair Joe Pohlad said. “The ‘W’ symbolizes the Hall of Fame players, historical achievements, three pennants, 1924 World Series championship and 60 seasons that formed our foundation in our nation’s capital. Washington Senators history is Minnesota Twins history, and we are proud to celebrate that legacy – now and for all future generations – by permanently displaying the ‘W’ alongside our retired numbers at Target Field.”

The Senators moved to Minnesota in 1961 but several of the organization’s Hall of Famers played in Washington, D.C., including Harmon Killebrew, Jim Kaat, Bob Allison, Earl Battey, Camilo Pascual and Zoilo Versalles.
