Utah Jazz Star Jordan Clarkson Makes Bold San Antonio Spurs Prediction

Jordan Clarkson has spent six seasons playing mostly as the sixth man for various teams and won Sixth Man of the Year in 2021 with the Utah Jazz. If anyone knows what it takes to win NBA awards, it's him.

Victor Wembanyama won Rookie of the Year in 2023, receiving every first-place vote in a runaway victory. He also came in second in Defensive Player of the Year voting and became the first rookie to ever be named to the All-Defensive First Team.

Clarkson doesn't think Wembanyama is slowing down at all.

For players, the NBA has six major awards given out every season: MVP, DPOTY, ROTY, 6MOTY, Clutch Player of the Year, and Most Improved. Every player can theoretically win any award in any given season, aside from Rookie of the Year, which can only be won in a player's debut season.

With that in mind, one could argue that ROTY is the hardest one to win, and Wembanyama already has that trophy in his case.

Clarkson seems to think that Wembanyama will win every award at some point in his career.

While DPOTY and MVP are certainly on the radar and CPOTY is a possibility, Wembanyama winning Sixth Man honors and Most Improved seem a little far-fetched. He's already an elite scorer and the best defender in the game, so for him to improve enough to win MIP would take quite an effort.

Only one NBA player has ever won MVP and 6MOTY. Bill Walton did, with an eight-season gap between the two, with three seasons missed due to injury. If Wembanyama can tack on a season or two in a bench role as a rebounder and shot blocker while still averaging 15-odd points a night, it's a possibility, but for now, an NBA Finals MVP should be the priority.
