USA Gymnastics Says it Has Proof Jordan Chiles’ Score Inquiry Submitted in Time

Jordan Chiles may get to keep her bronze medal, after all.

USA Gymnastics claims it has proof that the score inquiry for Chiles’ routine in the floor exercise final last week at the 2024 Paris Olympics was done in the one-minute window allowed for score inquiries by the International Gymnastics Federation, thus the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that voided Chiles’ new score which subsequently led to her losing her bronze medal should be overturned.

“USA Gymnastics on Sunday formally submitted a letter of evidence and video evidence to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, conclusively establishing the head coach Cecile Landi’s request to file an inquiry was submitted 47 seconds after the publishing of the score, within the one-minute deadline required by the FIG rule,” USAG said in a statement .

“…The video footage provided was not available to USA Gymnastics prior to the tribunal’s decision and thus USAG did not have the opportunity to previously submit it.”

The Court of Arbitration for Sport based its ruling on the premise Landi’s inquiry request came more than 60 seconds after Chiles’ score was originally announced.

However, USAG says it has time-stamped video that shows Landi made an inquiry request 47 seconds after the score was posted and again 55 seconds after it was posted.

If true, then no violations occurred and Chiles’ 13.766 score should be reinstated, giving her back the bronze medal and pushing Romania’s Ana Barbosu back to fourth place and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea back to fifth.
