The Dallas Cowboys' offense showcased some fireworks early against the Los Angeles Rams. A Cooper Rush-Jalen Brooks downfield connection set up the team for its first points of the preseason.

After establishing a presence on the ground on its first snaps, McCarthy and the Dallas offense decided to make a splash.

Rush, who got the starting nod in favor of Trey Lance, made a splash on his first throw, lofting a 43-yard pass to Brooks. The receiver, meanwhile, looks to separate himself amid competition on the Cowboys' depth chart.

The throw set up the Cowboys in the red zone. But after a one-yard pass to Jalen Moreno-Cropper and an incompletion in the end zone, Dallas settled for a field goal to even the score at 3-3.

Rush only saw action on the first drive, ending his day after one series. With much anticipated on Trey Lance's growth, the previous backup of the Cowboys saw limited time.

Dallas' first drive proved fruitful before the explosive play, finding success with its ground game. Rico Dowdle started with three carries for 14 yards, headlined by a nine-yard scamper.

Only netting a field goal, it remained a strong start on that side of the ball for the Cowboys.
