Cowboys and Rams Knotted at 6 at Halftime of Preseason Opener

Both teams moved the ball well, but neither the Dallas Cowboys or Los Angeles Rams found the end zone in the first half of Sunday's preseason opener. The teams went into the locker room tied 6-6, each tallying a pair of field goals.
A pair of Jordan Whittington grabs, including a 30-yard catch-and-run moved the Rams deep into the red zone. But the Dallas defense held firm and Los Angeles settled for three.
Cooper Rush got the start under center and showcased well in his limited action. After a pair of Rico Dowdle runs, Dallas took its first shot down the field and succeeded with Rush finding Jalen Brooks on a 43-yard connection.
But the Cowboys faltered and settled for a field goal in the red zone. However, the next possession was not far off after Markquese Bell intercepted Stetson Bennett on the ensuing possession.
Trey Lance then took the field for the first time, starting solid with two six-yard completions and a 19-yard scramble that would put the Cowboys back in scoring position. Dallas would face a fourth and goal at the three, but Lance missed Jalen Moreno-Cropper on a fade route.
Rookie left tackle Tyler Guyton got his first NFL action on that possession potentially in part due to a foot injury to Chuma Edoga who was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
An unnecessary roughness penalty helped move the Rams up the field on the following possession where Bennett led the home team into Cowboys' territory where they settled for another field goal.
Lance gathered himself on his second drive, completing three passes of over 10 yards to three different receivers. One of those tosses went to tight end John Stephens, his first reception since his season-ending ACL injury last preseason.
The Cowboys moved inside the Rams' 20, but again stalled after three consecutive Lance incompletions and Brandon Aubrey netted another field goal.
Los Angeles found itself in the red zone near the end of the half, but another poor throw by the Rams' quarterback landed in the hands of Eric Scott Jr., the Cowboys' second takeaway of the game.
The Rams out-gained the Cowboys 71-47 on the ground, though Dallas had the edge in passing yards 122-110.
