Team USA defeated France 98-87 in the 2024 Paris Olympics men's basketball gold medal game. Like their semifinals win over Serbia, Team USA was led by Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry in this game.

Finishing with 24 points in the win over France, Curry trailed Victor Wembanyama's 26 points for the game-high but was Team USA's leading scorer. This performance from Curry came after his 36-point eruption against Serbia, making it 60 points in the final two games for the Warriors star.

Curry's fourth quarter performance against France has been the talk of basketball, as NBC accumulated over one million views on X with those highlights:

The views on this post are just a fraction of the total viewership this game generated, as NBC Sports made a big announcement after the game that this contest was the most-watched gold medal game since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

"The U.S. Men’s Basketball Team’s down to-the-wire 98-87 victory over France – the teams were separated by three points with less than three minutes to play – averaged 19.5 million viewers on NBC and Peacock to rank as the most-watched gold medal game since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics," NBC Sports wrote in their announcement .

The network added that the game peaked at 22.7 million viewers as Team USA was pulling away for the victory.

While the Olympics are always a major event, Curry and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James are known for their ability to draw viewers in the NBA. In addition to leading Team USA to gold, Curry and James helped bring in viewership numbers that have not been seen since 1996.
