Dak's '1,000 Percent!' Dallas Cowboys Injury Update

    By Mike Fisher,

The Dallas Cowboys aren't likely going to be exposing Dak Prescott to the "real game'' activity of this NFL preseason - but that has nothing to do with his sore ankle, which kept him out of action last Friday at training camp in Oxnard.

But when they return to workouts on Tuesday? He vows he will be back to normal, for "real practice.''

What odds does Dak give that?

It's "1,000 percent,'' he said on Sunday as the Cowboys were losing the exhibition opener, 13-12, at the Los Angeles Rams.

Prescott's missed practice on Friday - his first such absence since 2021 - is the lingering result of him having injured his right ankle in a gruesome and season-ending manner back in 2020. He and the Cowboys now take great care there, which included him wearing a walking boot while on a family vacation before camp.

The Friday news, coming at the same time it was noticed that team owner Jerry Jones and others joined Prescott in being absent from the practice field, sent Cowboys Nation into a frenzy due to the fact that MVP QB and the team are working to negotiate a contract extension that could make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Dak recently expressed how much he is looking forward to the real on-field thing.

"A part of me wishes that (this week's practices against the Rams) was a game," said Prescott. "I'm looking forward to feeling that and getting into that rhythm, but the team will get to that and everything we need in the preseason to make sure that we're ready to roll when it's time to roll.

"Me, personally, I'm ready to play and get out there."

For now, it'll be Trey Lance trying to catch up with Cooper Rush in their battle for the No. 2 job.

And Dak will get ready for the real Week 1 (Sept. 8) at Cleveland. ... and part of his "get-ready'' is now continuing to make certain his ankle - is 100 percent.

    Or, even "1,000 percent.''
