ESPN analyst and NFL insider Adam Schefter recently provided a notable update on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and his ongoing contract negotiations with the team.

Lamb, who is entering his fifth NFL season, remains on his rookie contract and is seeking a new deal that would elevate him among the league’s highest-paid wide receivers.

The discussions have been ongoing for several months.

Schefter appeared on the "Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, offering insights into the current state of negotiations.

“It’s hard to imagine that the Cowboys won’t figure out a way to get this deal done for CeeDee Lamb,” Schefter stated.

Lamb faces daily fines of $40,000 and is set to receive nearly $1 million in penalties for missing the Cowboys' first preseason game against the Rams on Sunday.

However, these fines could potentially be rescinded, as they are at the team's discretion given Lamb's rookie contract.

Schefter expressed confidence that Lamb will be in camp by the season opener, saying he "would be floored if he was not in camp by the start of the season."

"I don’t know when they’re gonna get it done but I expect him to be there for the Cowboys' regular season opener," he added.

This week marks a significant shift from the previous week. Cowboys General Manager Jerry Jones has publicly expressed the team's hope to see Lamb return soon.

“Well, CeeDee, you’re missed, OK?,” Jones said during the Cowboys' pregame show on Sunday.

Schefter suggested that Jones’ comments were likely a response to criticism regarding his earlier statements about the lack of urgency in finalizing the deal, which Lamb had humorously reacted to on social media.

With the Cowboys' season opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 8 rapidly approaching, the clock is ticking for both parties to reach an agreement.
