Adam Schefter Calls Out Brandon Aiyuk Over His 49ers Accusation

Adam Schefter has publicly refuted Brandon Aiyuk's claim that the San Francisco 49ers are leaking information to the media.

During his August 12 appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," the ESPN NFL insider provided the latest details on Ayiuk's hold-in situation and directly refuted the star receiver's August 9 social media accusation about how the "Niners be in the media everyday lol."

"Again, he's the one that has advertised these other (trade destinations)," Schefter said to McAfee. "He's the one that's honestly been outspoken in the media. The other day he was commenting about how there were leaks in the Niners. I'm just telling you, I don't think they're talking that much. I don't think they're talking that much, I really don't. Not publicly."

Schefter continued, "There are so many people involved. So many other teams that, inevitably, people know. But it's not like San Francisco is advertising that they want to move on from the guy.

"They've wanted to keep the guy. They've just not been able to get the deal done."

To date, no NFL team interested in trading for Aiyuk —most notably the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers — has been able to satisfy both San Francisco's asking price and the 26-year-old's contract demands.

After Schefter's August 6 report that the Patriots had pulled out of the trade sweepstakes, fellow ESPN reporter Mike Reiss reported New England was prepared to offer Aiyuk $30-32 million annually on a new deal.
