Cincinnati Bengals Announce "Minor" Injury to First-Round Pick

Fresh off the heels of the Cincinnati Bengals' preseason Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced some unfortunate news regarding their first-round pick. In his presser, head coach Zac Taylor announced that Amarius Mims suffered a strained pectoral and will be sidelined for "several weeks."

When pressed if that meant Mims would be unavailable for the Bengals' Week 1 bout with the New England Patriots, Taylor read off the dictionary definition of "several."

If you're curious, Dictionary.com defines "several" as "being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind." Taylor went on to say he didn't want to commit to a timeline to Mims' injury which he also described as an, "extremely minor issue."

In the preseason game, Mims logged just 15 snaps, all with the first-team offense, and was solid, overall. He earned a PFF grade of a meager 62.9 but this is preseason and he wasn't exactly tested.

When asked if the injury jeopardized Mims' ability to start Week 1, Taylor said he wouldn't take anything off the table.

The positive spin, if there is going to be one, is that Trent Brown , the Bengals' free-agent singing at right tackle, was set to begin drills "any day now."

In the same presser, Taylor announced that seventh-round rookie safety Daijahn Anthony suffered a nose fracture as well. Anthony, however, is not expected to miss time.

The NFL is officially back with these injury designations and while the Mims injury is more severe (plus the Charlie Jones injury from last week was nothing major), the Bengals are still in a fine spot.

Letting Mims heal up will be good for the team in the long run. If he misses regular-season games, it will be unfortunate, but he should be able to contribute once cleared.
