Fans Enraged After Report Reveals Major Screw-Up In Jordan Chiles Case

Jordan Chiles' appeal has taken another weird turn. Recently, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Chiles' inquiry during the floor exercise finals was void, as the appeal reportedly came four seconds after the one-minute period. As a result, Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal, which was awarded to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.

Of course, USA Gymnastics disputed that ruling. According to them, they reportedly have evidence showing that their inquiry was submitted earlier than the alleged timeline stated by CAS. Now, in a strange turn, reporter Christine Brennan claims that the CAS made another mistake.

"I’m hearing that the Court of Arbitration for Sport did not reach out to the right US officials as CAS prepared for last week’s Romanian appeal in Paris," Brennan posted. "They are supposed to notify both sides and they got the wrong US officials."

If this allegation is indeed true, then it's a massive oversight for CAS. Fans are not happy with this reported mistake.

Others pointed out how this could've been resolved easily if the CAS decided to not take away Chiles' medal and instead awarded both women bronze medals. For what it's worth, the allocation of medals was decided by the International Olympic Committee, not the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Some pointed out that this alleged screw-up could explain the behavior of USA Gymnastics throughout this appeal process.

At the end of the day, most people agree that the athletes were the ones most troubled by this fiasco.

Chiles initially would have lost out on the bronze medal after scoring 13.666 in the floor exercise, 0.034 points behind Barbosu's 13.700. However, the aforementioned appeal by Chiles' coach Cecile Landi gave the American enough points to win the bronze.

Whether this latest allegation is true or not, this whole appeal process put a dark cloud over what was a memorable floor exercise finals. Rebeca Andrade took home the gold, while Chiles' teammate Simone Biles finished second. There was a sweet moment where Biles and Chiles bowed to Andrade after the latter took her place on the podium.
