The Jordan Chiles medal controversy is far from over. This is despite the fact that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Monday that the case cannot be reopened after a final decision has been made.

To recap, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in light of the CAS' decision to restore the initial scores at the floor exercise final, has decided to strip Chiles of the bronze medal she won.

Chiles initially placed fifth in the floor exercise final with a score of 13.666, but her coach, Cecile Landi, made a challenge about her execution score. Following a brief inquiry, the judges gave the US gymnast an additional 0.1 point, bumping her score to 13.766 and allowing her to climb to third. Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, who was occupying the third spot at the time, dropped to fourth with a score of 13.700.

However, Chiles saw this same appeal reversed after the CAS found evidence that the challenge came four seconds too late from the one-minute deadline. As a result, Barbosu has now been deemed the rightful winner of the bronze medal, which Chiles is now being required to give back.

USA Gymnastics appealed this decision but was recently advised by the CAS that "their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented."

On Tuesday, USA Gymnastics took to X, formerly Twitter, to make an announcement surrounding this controversy.

"As we continue to celebrate the successes of Team USA Gymnasts on social media, know that we are still working full-time to pursue justice for Jordan," the tweet read.

Chiles is far from the only gymnast who found success in Paris (she also won a gold medal as part of the team all-around final), which is why the gymnastics governing body has been celebrating the incredible achievements of the likes of Simone Biles and Suni Lee, to name a few.

At the same time, however, the federation has made it abundantly clear that they are doing everything in their power to fight for Chiles.

This saga is far from over.
