Zac Taylor Caught On Mic Wondering if Bengals ‘Created a Monster’ With Star Rookie

Cincinnati Bengals rookie Jermaine Burton made key contributions in his first-ever preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday.

He caught a 37-yard touchdown, which gave the Bengals the lead late in the fourth quarter. They, however, couldn't complete the win and fell to the Buccaneers, 17-14.

Still, Bengals coach Zac Taylor was very pleased with Burton's performance, as shown in his mic'd up reaction after the 23-year-old wide receiver's TD.

"We created a monster, didn't we?" Taylor said in the video shared by the Bengals on X.

The Bengals may have found a diamond in the rough in Burton, who was the 80th overall pick in this year's draft. He was only inserted late in the game but still tallied 82 yards and three catches.

Taylor admitted to reporters after their loss to the Buccaneers that he should've played Burton more. But he also noted their lack of snaps and "zero rhythm," which prevented him from fielding in the former Alabama standout earlier.

"We were able to get him in there late in the game and target him a couple of times," Taylor said, as quoted by SB Nation's Patrick Judis .

"The quarterback did a good job finding him and he did a great job when the ball went to him. That’s what we want to see from him.”

The Bengals will next face the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
