The New York Giants are quickly running out of time to solidify their starting offensive line as the 2024 NFL season approaches.

Since team activities began in April, the projected lineup of Andrew Thomas , Jermaine Eluemunor , John Michael Schmitz , Jon Runyan Jr ., and Evan Neal has yet to play a single snap together due to injuries.

These disruptions have forced the Giants to shuffle their lineup. Neal, who began training camp on the PUP list , seems to have lost his starting spot to Eluemunor, who has anchored the right tackle position since Day 1. Runyan has shifted to left guard, and Greg Van Roten was signed to fill the right guard role. However, this new configuration has yet to practice together, leaving head coach Brian Daboll and offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo in a challenging position as the season opener nears.

“You love to have all the guys on the field, but the reality is they’re not,” Daboll said , acknowledging the frustration of not having a set starting five at this stage of training camp.

While Daboll remains optimistic, the lack of cohesion on the offensive line could spell trouble for the Giants’ offense, which has struggled to protect the quarterback in recent years.

Bricillo emphasized the importance of live reps against another team, noting that the upcoming game against Houston is critical for identifying and correcting flaws. Despite his optimism, Bricillo would prefer to have the starting unit solidified by now.

One positive for the Giants is the prior working relationship between Van Roten and Eluemunor from their time with the Raiders , which Bricillo believes could help accelerate their chemistry. However, the Giants know that their offensive line must be cohesive and in sync by Week 1 if they hope to capitalize on the offensive additions made this offseason.

As the clock ticks down, solidifying the offensive line could be the key to the Giants’ success—or failure—in 2024.
