The Chicago Cubs will look to avoid the series sweep on the road against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. The team is coming off two losses to begin the week at Progressive Field, both in one run ballgames. The Cubs head into the series with a record of 59-62 and five games outside the final spot for the National League Wildcard.

Wednesday, August 14th: Jameson Taillon vs. Alex Cobb

The Cubs will go with Jameson Taillon (8-6, 3.50) in hopes of helping the team salvage the series. The 32 year old will be making his 21st start of the season. He allowed five runs in his last time out against the Chicago White Sox, including two homers. He has allowed at least one home run in nine of his last ten starts.

The Guardians will start Alex Cobb (0-1, 7.71) for the final game against the Cubs on Wednesday. Cobb will make his second start for the Guardians since being acquired from the San Fransisco Giants at the MLB Trade Deadline. Cobb did not pitch in the majors in 2024 before the trade as he was recovering from left hip surgery. In his first start back on the mound, he picked up the loss against the Minnesota Twins after allowing five runs (four earned) off nine hits across 4.2 innings of work. He was only able to pick up one strikeout in the outing.
