Speaking to Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams" show from Miami Dolphins training camp on August 14, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told a story exposing one of Dan Marino's "biggest regrets."

"So I found out that one of his biggest regrets of his entire career was being compensated for the ( Ace Ventura: Pet Detective ) film," McDaniel shared. "He took the lump sum instead of the residuals. ... I think he didn't totally see the cult classic.

"Word on the street is when they were pitching it to him, Jim Carrey showed up in the ensemble he was wearing at the mental institution, the tutu, so he didn't feel very strong about the prospects of it. Ultimately, (he) took a small lump sum that still eats at him to this day."

The 1994 comedy turned into a fan-favorite, including the iconic "Laces Out" scene where Ray Finkle's mom says the Dolphins legend "should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell."

The film posted $107.2 million at the worldwide box office, far outpacing its initial $15 million budget.

Marino, who also appeared in the 2000 film "Little Nicky ," didn't have many regrets on the gridiron outside of an elusive Super Bowl victory. The Pro Football Hall of Famer ranks seventh all-time in touchdown passes (420) and eighth in passing yards (61,361).
