Cowboys Signing Jets Ex As Micah Parsons Helper

    By Mike Fisher,

A healthy Carl Lawson would probably still be a member of the New York Jets.

Ability, of course, was never the issue with the Jets. As the saying goes, due to injury problems, it was always about "availability.''

But now, the Dallas Cowboys have an available opening on their roster. And Jets ex Lawson is getting a crack at it.

The Cowboys have their opening with Sam Williams going down with a torn ACL early in their camp; the promising youngster is out for the rest of the season.

Lawson immediately tweeted his interest in joining Dallas and got a workout ... but did not sign at that time.

But now? A "second'' second chance for the player who was once viewed as a $15 million APY star.

Dallas still has stalwart DeMarcus Lawrence to play one end and superstar Micah Parsons might be the NFL's best pass-rusher manning the other end, at least part time.

But former Jets defensive end Lawson - who'd already made clear his wish to sign with Dallas immediately after the Williams injury via his tweeting of a "star'' emoji - might be needed as a top of rotation guy ... And at 29, he's getting a chance to do that by joining the Cowboys at training camp in Oxnard.

Lawson remained unsigned after a too-short tenure with the Jets during which he simply couldn't stay healthy. Lawson tallied 33 tackles and seven sacks in his first season with the Jets, but missed the majority of last season due to injury.

Dallas has obviously cleared him medically, and so gets a reboot ... in part we bet because the Cowboys' top defensive assistant is Paul Guenther, who coached him with the Bengals, where he spent five seasons.

A healthy Lawson almost helped New York. Now he gets a shot at helping Dallas.
