RGIII (Along with Sam Ponder) Fired From ESPN: Report

Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III has been fired from ESPN with two years remaining on his contract, according to reports that also have NFL anchor Sam Ponder heading out the door.

Back in 2012, the Commanders selected RGIII out of Baylor with the No. 2 overall pick. He shined in his rookie year leading the Commanders to a 10-6 record and an NFC East division championship.

He was also named the AP Offensive Player of the Year and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. The following year, the Commanders went 3-10 with RGIII under center. In 2014, he was just 2-5.

In the six years following his rookie season, Griffin won just seven games as a starter total with a record of 7-20 in that time.

The former Baylor Bears stud was highly sought after by both Fox Sports and ESPN before he signing with ESPN three years ago. His auditions at both organizations were highly lauded throughout the process.

He was replaced on Monday Night Countdown by the recently retired Jason Kelce, and he was the lead analyst for ESPN's college football coverage.

Griffin has not shied away from taking on controversial issues on his social media pages, which are very active.  Griffin has 2.2 million followers on Twitter, but has yet to comment anywhere on the firing. ESPN has also not commented on this breaking news.
