According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, ESPN has made a decision on their future with college football analyst Robert Griffin III.

Marchand tweeted out Thursday afternoon that ESPN has decided to let go of Griffin after he was a large part of college football coverage in 2023 and was a broadcaster on some games.

"Sam Ponder and Robert Griffin III have been fired by ESPN, according to sources," Marchand reported .

Samantha Ponder worked primarily in NFL coverage but also had a hand in college football at times as well. Per Marchand, ESPN's reasoning behind the decision:

"These are budget moves," he wrote. "These are the only two being let go as ESPN ends its fiscal year."

Prior to his career on television, Robert Griffin III was a college legend and interesting player in the NFL. He broke through back at Baylor, emerging to win the Heisman Trophy, an incredible feat for a Bear.

He was subsequently drafted in the first round of the NFL draft and even performed well in his first season to win Offensive Rookie of the Year after leading Washington to an NFC East title.

Ultimately, his career wouldn't pan out as fans hoped as it progressed, but following a nice backup QB career, RG3 made the quick pivot to college football coverage, where the former Heisman winner offered insight from his own playing days.
