Jordan Chiles Praised For Courageous Response to Bronze Medal Decision

Jordan Chiles was stripped of the bronze medal she won in the Floor Exercise finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Chiles found herself on the podium after a last-second score bump moved her into third place. The American gymnast had a few days to celebrate her bronze medal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) changed its initial ruling — moving her down into fifth place.
CAS ruled that Chiles' coaches submitted the score-change inquiry outside of the allowed one-minute window. USA Gymnastics appealed the ruling with new video evidence, but that appeal was denied.
Chiles took to social media with a lengthy statement on Thursday.
"I have no words. This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey," Chiles said. "To add to the heartbreak, the unprompted racially driven attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful. I've poured my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country."
The 23-year-old gymnast is being heaped with praise and support on social media.
"You won that medal and had your moment. They can’t take that from you! Love you and keep your head up!" one fan wrote.
"You’re loved Sis. They’ll never be able to take away a moment that’s been etched in the hearts of millions," another said.
"You’re a champion forever in our eyes. Take care of yourself and ignore the negativity. The love we have for you and your journey far outweigh the hate. Head high. Your greatness can’t be contained," another added.

"I am now confronted with the one of the most challenging moments of my career," Chiles continued. "Believe me when I say I have had many. I will approach this challenge as I have others – and will make every effort to ensure that justice is done. I believe that at the end of this journey, the people in control will do the right thing."
