For the first time since she announced she was taking a break from social media after having her Olympic bronze medal stripped by the International Olympic Committee, USA gymnast Jordan Chiles has spoken publicly about the incident.

In a length statement released via social media, Chiles gives her side of what the last week-plus has been like for her in the wake of USA Gymnastics filing an appeal to get her medal back.

“I had confidence in the appeal brought by the USAG, who gave conclusive evidence that my score followed the rules,” Chiles wrote. “This appeal was unsuccessful. I have no word. This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey.

“…I am now confronted with one of the most challenging moments of my career. Believe me when I say I have had many. I will approach this challenge as I have others — and will make every effort to ensure that justice is done. I believe that at the end of this journey, the people in control will do the right thing.”

The entire medal-stripping situation has been mired in controversy as USAG submitted video proof that the score inquiry that led to Chiles initially winning bronze in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics was done so in the appropriate time.

Additionally, it was recently discovered that the chair of the three-person panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport is a lawyer with Romanian ties, causing a conflict of interest as Chiles’ medal was given to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.
