Robert Griffin III Breaks Silence On Being Fired By ESPN

Robert Griffin III's career at ESPN came to an end on Thursday.

The Athletic's Andrew Marchand named Griffin, along with Sam Ponder, as "budget moves" as the company's fiscal year comes to a close. Griffin had two year's remaining on his deal.

The only Baylor Bear to ever win the Heisman Trophy (2011), Griffin signed with ESPN following a nine-year career in the NFL. He was originally drafted by the Washington Commanders at No. 2 overall in 2012. He also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin signed with ESPN in 2021 as a college football analyst and a panel member on 'NFL Live'. He took over for Randy Moss on 'Monday Night Countdown' in 2022 before being replaced by former Philadelphia Eagle Jason Kelce ahead of the 2024 season.

Griffin did not respond quickly when the news of his firing broke. Instead, he initially elected to provide his analysis of the Atlanta Falcons trading with the New England Patriots for pass rusher Matthew Judon.

Griffin did eventually share a response to his ESPN exit, though, with a clip from the popular 1990s film "Friday."

"How the h** you gonna get fired on your day off?"

Griffin was always quick-witted during his coverage at ESPN, and this response is what you might expect. He should have plenty of suiters lining for football coverage in the future. Griffin is one of the most-followed personalties the sport has to offer with over 3 million combined followers on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
