The NFL season is quickly approaching, so it is a good time to start looking at who could win each regular season award, as well as some sleepers.

In a recent article by Ian Van Roy of NFL Analysis , he lists five sleeper candidates to win NFL MVP this season, and one of the players he mentions is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.

"Baker Mayfield has done enough to elbow his way into the competent starter category of quarterbacks. However, he still remains well out of reach of an MVP-level season in the eyes of most," Van Roy writes. "That said, he has come out of left field consistently for about the last season and a half to beat expectations. It would not be outside the realm of possibility to see Mayfield do it one more time in 2024 after settling in with the Buccaneers."

Mayfield had the best season of his career in his first year with his new team, so he could be in great position to build on that and have an even better 2024 campaign.

He finished the 2023 season with just over 4000 yards and 28 passing touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl, and was able to lead the Buccaneers past the Philadelphia Eagles to the second round of the playoffs.

If Mayfield can build on last season and utilize his weapons even more in 2024, then he could be a player to watch as a sleep for MVP.
