Cowboys Make D-Line Changes, Coach Calls Out Huggins

    By Wil Riggs,

In professional football there is no room for hotheads that put their hands on "civilians'' who are just trying to do their jobs.

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Albert Huggins did just that - and much more - when he used his momentum and his anger and his poor judgment as he plowed through a Rams intern who happened to be standing nearby a drill durintg Wednesday's joint workout at camp in Oxnard.

The situation threatened to get ugly for a moment before coaches, including Rams head coach Sean McVay, could diffuse the situation.

Cowboys coaches, meanwhile, did their part as Huggins was removed from practice and the field.

Since the altercation, Huggins has apologized to both the staffer and coach McVay for the situation. ... An apology that coach Mike McCarthy accepted as well.

“Obviously, his behavior is unacceptable,” McCarthy said. “It’s something that’s been addressed. He has apologized and I’m comfortable with his apology.''

It just so happens that while 300-pound end-of-bencher Huggins was doing his thing, the Cowboys front office was busy making D-line moves. In the last day, Dallas has traded for Carl Lawson signed Jordan Phillips. It so happens that Phillips plays Huggins' position.

But as we write this Huggins remains on the 90-man as Dallas dumped Carl Davis instead.

    A lesson learned?

“I just want to make sure that behavior is unaccepted,'' McCarthy said. "Emotional discipline in that moment. That’s not what we’re about. And he clearly understands that.”
