Simone Biles' Subtle Reaction To Emotional Jordan Chiles Statement Says It All

Jordan Chiles finally broke her silence on Thursday after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to strip the U.S. gymnast of the bronze medal she won in the floor final of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Chiles, who initially finished fifth in the competition with a score of 13.666, had an additional 0.1 point added to her final tally after a successful appeal made by her coach, Cecile Landi, over the routine's difficulty score. This pushed Chiles up to third place, surpassing Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea, who both finished with a score of 13.700. Due to a tie-breaker (a higher execution score), it was Barbosu who finished fourth, while Voinea was relegated to fifth.

In a stunning turn of events, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the challenge from Chiles' camp came four seconds beyond the one-minute challenge deadline. This led to the International Gymnastics Federation restoring Chiles' initial score of 13.666, thereby placing her back in fifth.

USA Gymnastics appealed the decision with the CAS but was informed that "their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented."

Ultimately, the IOC demanded that Chiles return her bronze medal, which will be turned over to Barbosu after she was deemed as the rightful third-place finisher.

Amid her self-proclaimed social media hiatus, Chiles issued an official statement on Thursday wherein she thanked everyone for the love and support she's received over the past few days. At the same time, however, the 23-year-old called out the IOC's decision as "unjust."

"I have no words," Chiles wrote. "This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey," she continued before calling out the hateful messages that the situation has brought upon her. "To add to the heartbreak, the unprompted racially driven attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful. I've poured my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country."

Simone Biles, who is Chiles' teammate with USA Gymnastics and one of her closest friends, took to Instagram to share her subtle reaction to this heartbreaking statement.

Biles, who bagged the silver medal in the same event in question with a final score of 14.133, did not have any words either. She merely shared the statement on her own page while using a black background.

Biles may not have added any caption to her post, but her unwavering support for Chiles says it all. It is clear that Simone, along with the rest of USA Gymnastics, are standing strongly behind Jordan amid this massive controversy.

Ultimately, Chiles might never get her bronze medal back (USA Gymnastics is still exploring any and all avenues to appeal the decision), but at the end of the day, she will always have the steadfast backing of her peers.
