WATCH: Patriots Rookie QB Drake Maye Scores First NFL Touchdown

The North Carolina product Drake Maye, who was seen slinging the ball across the field during college, scored his first NFL TD in rare fashion for the New England Patriots Thursday night as he ran it from inside the five-yard line.

Maye didn't see much action in the Patriots first preseason game, and it resulted in loud boos from the crowd. They simply wanted to see their rookie quarterback more. They got much more taste of that Thursday night.

New England selected Maye with the 3rd overall pick, the 3rd quarterback taken off the board. The growing anticipation is that Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback week one, but Maye could find himself as the starter at some point during the season.

Maye finished the 1st half and completed five of his seven passes for 47 yards and zero turnovers. While adding two rushes for 10 yards and a touchdown.

His command of the offense looks very smooth, and he seems to be comfortable, which is a key sign. Now, his development just remains the vital piece to the puzzle to grow into the starting role.
