Lakers Legend Michael Cooper Excited About Bronny James Decision

The Los Angeles Lakers' decision to select Bronny James with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft has become a polarizing topic around the basketball world.

Some are excited about the idea of Bronny joining the NBA ranks and playing along side his father, Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Others are crying "nepotism," claiming the 19-year-old guard doesn't deserve to be in the league.

NBA Hall of Famer Michael Cooper is thrilled about Bronny joining the franchise he called home for 12 seasons.

"I think that's one of the greatest things to ever happen," Cooper said during a recent interview with Brandon Robinson. "LeBron James, his father, has done so much for the game of basketball... Now he'll be the first player to play with his son. Why not do it in a Laker uniform?"

"This is not about nepotism at all," he continued. "It's about drafting a young player that can definitely help the Lakers in the long run. He just happens to have the name James."

Cooper, a five-time NBA champion and former Defensive Player of the Year, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 class.
