On Thursday night, Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky made their return from the month-long Olympic break as they hosted Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury.

The Sky looked extremely rusty in the first half, facing a 22-point deficit as they went into halftime. But that didn't stop Reese from leaving her mark on the defensive side of the ball toward the end of the half.

With 40 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Taurasi received the ball at the top of the three-point line. She drove to the hoop and tried to put up a layup, but Reese slid over and cleanly swatted the ball away, leading to a fast break opportunity.

Prior to this game, the former LSU Tigers star had only recorded ten total blocks throughout the 2024 WNBA season, averaging 0.4 per game.

WNBA fans loved seeing Reese step up on defense, especially against a star like Taurasi. They took to social media to leave their thoughts.

"Angel Reese with the block on Diana Taurasi."

    "Sheeeeeeeeeesh!"

"Angel Reese with the rejection on Diana Taurasi"

"Angel Reese with the denial on Diana Taurasi"

Reese is not known for her blocking abilities, which made the play all the more exciting. But she is certainly a menace on the boards.

In her rookie season, she broke the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles with 15, all of which were points and rebounds double-doubles. She also averages the second-most rebounds in the WNBA with 11.9 per game, right behind former MVP A'ja Wilson.
