Carmelo Anthony is a highly respected NBA legend. However, his commitment to international basketball earns him even more love from overseas leagues and fans. Australia will become quite familiar with Anthony and vice versa, as the former New York Knicks All-Star will host NBL's HoopsFest .

“I’m excited for my trip to Australia and to experience firsthand the global impact of basketball. The NBL’s growth and success is rooted in their commitment to nurture emerging talent and I can’t wait to do my part to help the league reach new heights onto the world stage,” Anthony said.

The NBL's season opener is Sept. 19. Anthony was named future owner of an NBL expansion team. By no means is Anthony's participation at the superficial level, as his dedication to growing the league speaks volumes coming from a bonafide star. The Syracuse alum has the NBL's respect.

"Carmelo has an authentic and genuine interest in growing the NBL and showcasing it on the world stage. This is evident by both his role with the Next Stars program, as well as him travelling to Perth to engage with the league," NBL CEO David Stevenson said.

Australia finished without a medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics but has maintained a steady international ranking. Anthony's notoriety and basketball knowledge will help build the NBL, especially when he takes over the expansion team in the near future.
