Winning Comes First for Angel Reese

    By Lance Roberson,

Angel Reese understands what matters most in the competitive field of the WNBA. Numbers aside, did you win? If not, then everything else seems irrelevant. The Chicago Sky All-Star rookie recorded two historical marks, including becoming the first player to record 300 rebounds or more in the first 25 games,

Besides the positives, Reese shot an inefficient 4-14 from the field against the Phoenix Mercury. Brittney Griner had Reese's number and passcode the veteran center shut down the rookie at the rim in three possesions. Griner finished with five blocks on the night.

Furthermore, to add more salt to the wound, the Mercury beat the Sky 85-65. After the game, a reporter asked Reese how she felt about the records set in the loss.

"I don’t want to hear about no record, man," Reese said.

While it's fine to celebrate individual achievements, the optics of a rookie being enthused after a 20-point beatdown wouldn't bode well for Reese.

However, Reese has consistently displayed her understanding of the value of "team over me," at times, the rookie moves like a veteran.

The Sky are still in playoff position, hanging onto the last spot at 10-15.

Chicago plays the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday at 5 PM Eastern Time. Reese's head is on straight, and she seems motivated following the embarrassing loss to the Mercury. Sky vs. Sparks is building to a solid matchup.
