Steelers Reveal QB Russell Wilson Plan vs. Buffalo

The Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Buffalo Bills in preseason action on Saturday. Pittsburgh looks to bounce back from a 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans a week ago.

On Thursday afternoon, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced that quarterback Russell Wilson would be starting against the Bills this weekend.

“Russ is scheduled to participate if he has no setbacks,” Tomlin said. “It’s been a good week. He’s been a full participant. He’s had a couple of really good days. With each passing day, it’s less of an issue. So, we look forward to him participating in this home venue.”

Wilson only started fully participating in training camp and practices a week ago following a calf injury he sustained at the onset of training camp during conditioning tests.

Wilson is on his third team in four years, and after two sub-par years with the Denver Broncos, this might be his last best shot to prove he can still play at high level.

Things to look for when Russell Wilson is in the game include timing and footwork. Can he press off of his right foot to push the ball downfield?

How Wilson plays in this game will directly affect the Steelers plans moving forward.

Quarterback Justin Fields, who the Steelers acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears four days after signing Wilson, has come on and made a case to be the starter.

The Steelers and Bills kick off at 6 p.m. EST at Acrisure Stadium in downtown Pittsburgh.
