The Cleveland Browns have officially named Dorian Thompson-Robinson , better known as DTR, as the starting quarterback for their upcoming preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings . In what will be the Browns' second preseason matchup, DTR, who played in the first preseason game in relief of Jameis Winston, will take the helm from the start. Following DTR’s stint, Tyler Huntley will step in as the Browns continue to evaluate their quarterback depth.

DTR, 24, is no stranger to the Browns' system, having been the only other quarterback on the roster last season besides Deshaun Watson . His familiarity with the team's playbook and his continued development make him a critical piece of Cleveland’s preseason plans. The Browns have also confirmed that no starters will play in this game, allowing younger players and those competing for roster spots to showcase their talents.

This decision follows a week of intense joint practices between the Browns and Vikings, where Cleveland’s defense made a significant impact. So much so that Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confronted Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz about the aggressive play. Despite the heated practices, the upcoming game is expected to be more relaxed, focusing on depth evaluation rather than intensity.

Deshaun Watson , the Browns' starting quarterback, is expected to make his preseason debut in the third and final game on August 24 in Seattle . Watson, who is returning from season-ending shoulder surgery, has looked strong in training camp but will sit out this week to ensure his readiness for the regular season. With only 12 games under his belt in his two seasons with the Browns, Watson’s health and performance will be vital to the team’s success in 2024.
