NY Rangers' Matt Rempe Reveals His Biggest Fear Entering 2025 Season

New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is about to embark on his sophomore season with the Broadway franchise after experiencing quite a year in his rookie campaign.

Rempe became an overnight sensation in Manhattan and a bonafide fan favorite since joining the team midway through the 2023-24 season . That had a lot to do with his humongous size, aggressive style of play, and frequent fighting on the ice, no matter the opposition.

However, with the attention comes pressure, and the 21-year-old enforcer has admitted his biggest fear entering next season is disappointing Rangers fans who supported him throughout his first year in the NHL.

“I’m getting all this attention, and I feel like I have to earn it,” Rempe said on August 15 in an interview with Dan Rosen of NHL.com . “I’ve gotten on the scene, I’ve done well, but there’s so much room for growth. I don’t want to let anyone down. I’m terrified of that. That pushes me every single day to try to do the max that I can and ask how much better did I get today?”

Despite flashes of toughness and his appointment-view fights across the nation rinks, it's fair to say Rempe’s on-ice performance has been rather paltry. In 17 regular-season games, he recorded one goal, one assist, and a total of 2 points, while averaging just 5:38 minutes of ice time.

Rempe, however, is aware of the work that lies ahead and knows he must improve his production all across the board to stay in New York's lineup.

“I’m just trying to get better,” Rempe said. “I feel like I can be a very effective bottom-six player who is fast, mean, physical, skates well, protects pucks, goes to the net, is good around the net, can play center or wing. I want to be a good penalty killer. I feel like I can be a guy one day on a shutdown line that can be very hard to play against and also create some offense around the net, bring pucks to the net. I’ve got a long way to go but that’s all I’m working toward.”
