Penguins' Cody Glass Fires Back at Fan Who Called Him a 'Scrub'

Just a few days is all it took new Pittsburgh Penguins forward Cody Glass to earn the respect and love of fans across the NHL since getting traded from the Nashville Predators.

Glass found himself on the receiving end of some criticism from a Penguins "fan" on social media who called him (among other players) a "scrub" after his team acquired the former Predators and Vegas Golden Knights forward.

The 25-year-old, who was part of a deal that saw Nashville send him and two draft picks to Pittsburgh in exchange for prospect Jordan Frasca, took the bull by the horns and responded to the insult with a light-hearted comeback straight on the comments section of Instagram ( h/t B/R Open Ice on X ).

“Our team is burdened by large contracts for old guys,” the fan said about the Penguins' addition of Glass. “Leaving not much room to fill the team with scrubs. This guy is a scrub. Scrubs don’t win anything.”

To that, Glass hilariously responded, "Dude give me a chance."

Glass carries a cap hit of $2.5 million next season and is under contract through July 2025 when he will become an unrestricted free agent. The Golden Knights drafted Glass with the No. 6 pick in the 2017 NHL draft—the first pick in franchise history.

Since making his debut, Glass has scored 71 points (29 goals, 42 assists) in 187 regular-season games. Last season, he recorded 13 points in 41 games for the Predators but did not feature in the playoffs.

Some fans supported Glass after the original "scrub" comment was brought to the forefront by the player's reply to it.

"This is a class move by Cody Glass," a fan said . "People write stupid stuff like athletes can not see them (...) they see more than people think," another fan commented . "Pens fans are some of the worst in sports," a third fan added .
